Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 14 April 2026

Our commitment

Housenote is committed to making its website and mobile app accessible and usable for everyone, regardless of disability, assistive technology, or browsing context. We believe that finding student housing should be easy and stress-free for all students, and that starts with building an inclusive product.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA where reasonably practicable. As a small, student-led team, we are actively working towards this goal and welcome feedback on where we can improve.

What we have done

Steps we have taken to improve accessibility include:

  • Using semantic HTML elements and ARIA landmarks to structure pages clearly for screen readers.
  • Providing a “Skip to main content” link at the top of each page for keyboard users.
  • Ensuring all images have descriptive alt text.
  • Using sufficient colour contrast between text and background throughout the site.
  • Designing interactive elements (buttons, links, inputs) with visible focus states for keyboard navigation.
  • Testing on modern browsers and across common screen sizes and orientations.
  • Using a legible typeface at appropriate sizes with adequate line spacing.

Known limitations

We are aware of some areas where our accessibility could be improved:

  • Some interactive elements in the mobile app may not yet be fully labelled for screen readers — we are working to address this.
  • Animated transitions (used on the marketing website) may be distracting for users who prefer reduced motion. We plan to add prefers-reduced-motion support across all animations.
  • Property listing images sourced from third-party estate agents may not always have descriptions available to us; we display these as provided.

We are a small team and work on accessibility improvements continuously alongside feature development.

Compatibility

Our website is designed to work with modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on desktop and mobile. We test across a range of screen sizes. The mobile app (iOS and Android) is designed to respect system font size preferences and supports platform-level accessibility features such as VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android).

Feedback and contact

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Housenote. If you encounter a barrier, find something confusing, or need content in a different format, please get in touch:

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five working days and to address reported issues as quickly as our capacity allows.

Formal complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility concern, you may contact the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) (England and Wales), which enforces the Equality Act 2010.
