Delete your Housenote account

You can delete your account and its data at any time.

Delete from inside the app

This is the quickest route and takes effect immediately. In the Housenote app:

  1. Open the Settings tab.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
  3. Confirm when prompted.

Your account and the data listed below are removed straight away, and you are signed out. This cannot be undone.

Request deletion by email

If you can no longer sign in, email louis@housenoteapp.com from the address registered to your account, with the subject “Delete my Housenote account”. Tell us the email address or phone number you signed up with so we can find the account.

We will confirm once the account has been deleted, and in any case within 30 days of your request.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

  • Your account: sign-in credentials, university email, phone number, name and profile details.
  • Your preferences: saved search filters, saved and hidden properties, and notification settings.
  • Your house: your membership of any house group, and any pending invitations sent to your address.
  • Your messages: direct conversations you are part of, and the messages within them.
  • Your posts: any Flatmate Forum posts you created.
  • Your rewards: any promotional or discount codes issued to you.

What we keep, and for how long

Messages you sent to a house group chat remain visible to the other members of that house, so the conversation still makes sense to them. They are no longer linked to a Housenote account once yours is deleted.

We may keep a limited amount of anonymised, aggregated usage data that cannot be used to identify you, and any records we are legally required to retain, such as records relating to a bills enquiry you submitted. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis and any residual copies are removed within 30 days.

Deleting some data only

You do not have to delete your whole account to remove individual items. You can unsave properties, delete your own Flatmate Forum posts, leave a house group, and change or clear your search filters at any time from inside the app. If you want a specific piece of data removed, email us at the address above and we will handle it as a data request under UK GDPR.
